Live Music for Silent Movies

THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI/ THE GOLEM/ HAEXAN/ THE MOUNTAIN CAT /WAXWORKS/ MAX DAVIDSON COMEDIES

Composed, arranged and performed in different formations by Susanne Peusquens (double bass, percussion, melodica) - Matthias Jahner (saxophones, clarinets, flutes) - Jochen Bärenz (piano) - Christian Roderburg (percussion)

The fusion of traditional film music, jazz, Klezmer and contemporary improvisation generates both suspense and excitement complementing the athmospheres of the different movies.
Using various musical styles, the archaic sounds of double bass, clarinet, saxophone, flute, melodica and drums translate the movies' authentic and artistic imagery.

All musicians have a long-standing experience as instrumentalists and composers in various musical fields. Their activities range from jazz to folklore, from ballroom music and musicals to their own artistic projects. The musicians have performed their live music to silent movies with great success in public movie theatres and art museums throughout Europe:

„Susanne Peusquens and Matthias Jahner have made the “Golem” appear as a new masterpiece. With double bass, clarinet, saxophones and flutes, they have created –even for the different perception of contemporary audiences- this mystic tension, that the silent images with their rather comical effect could no longer convey by themselves.“
